Easy reading

I'm a periodic and very picky reader. Lately, I’ve been mainly reading in English which is a foreign language for me. I’m not an expert, so I like to read easier literature, like celebrity biographies and other interesting memoirs. I prefer hardback covers and normal font sizes. Reading a small print makes me exhausting even if the book is very good. I admit – I like beautiful covers and colorful images on them. I have some positive experiences with books, chosen only by their covers and conversely. My big wish as a child was to write my own book, but I never really know what it would be about. Reading and writing is therapeutic for me, it helps me to feel better and find some lost pieces of myself for which maybe I didn’t know that they were lost.

Problem is that selection of books in my local public library is very poor. At least for my taste, it’s not really that bad. OK, poor in non-fiction, not school related area. Everything interesting passes us by, but we are regularly introduced to trendy books like ˝don’tknowhowmanyshadesofgrey˝. A few months ago I bought two books: a novel – which is waiting for me in my room in front of the radio and book about fragrances. When I finish reading them, I’ll probably write a review.

I like to read book reviews and checking out what’s new. Based on my preferences and online reviews, I made list of books I would like to read. The only problem is that the only way I get to them is to buy them. Maybe I’ll get lucky and find something in libraries or get a great deal online.

1.    Going off script – Giuliana Rancic
I know Giuliana for a few years now. I liked to watch her reality show. Sometimes I watch her when she’s doing live interviews with celebrities from red carpet events; I like her on Fashion Police. She’s a very good and professional journalist, interesting to listen and very funny. Her book is about her childhood, immigration to America work and life in Hollywood and dealing with cancer. Because she’s got a masters degree from journalism I expect her book to be well written. She wrote it herself, what is nowadays a rare thing for famous people, so I respect her book even more because of that.

2.    Good mourning – Elizabeth Meyer
This is a memoir from a young woman from a rich Manhattan family who decided to ask for a job in a funeral home after her father died. She got the job and the opportunity for doing what she does the best – planning, this time funerals and not parties like she usually did. This book describes how is for a young woman to work in a funeral home and how she fitted in the funeral industry. I expect to get some behind the scene information, maybe some anecdotes from funerals. I assume this is written in a Carrie Bradshaw stile – a girl’s point of view on death and everything that goes with it.

3.    The Residence – Kate Andersen Brower
The Residence is describing how the life in the White house goes and how is to take care for the First family. It’s dedicated to persons who work there and make sure that everything runs smoothly. People who worked there (or still are) are telling their stories about their work, funny moments and what were the First families like behind the walls. There is also included some history about this famous building. I think this could be interesting read if it’s nor to superficial. I like details and learning new things, some juicy stories. That makes a good vacation book.

4.    Troublemaker – Leah Remini
It got my attention even before it was published. It became a famous book, because is a bit controversial. Leah Remini was a member of Church of Scientology. This is a cult with special, strange believes – but if you like it, be true to it. Anyway, a lot of famous people are members of this church and when Leah decided to leave and start a new life, she wrote about them (for example Tom Cruise) but not in a good way. I’m curious to find out more about scientology and what are the members of the church all capable of. This is not just book about religion and new beginnings, but also about Leah’s work as an actress. She is very funny, I watch her in a ˝King of the Queens˝ sitcom. A lot of people mentioned in their reviews that this book is hilarious, so here’s the reason to read it.

I think I’ll soon write about some other books, because I’m constantly discovering something new.
