Even though I started to experiment with brighter nail colors recently, I
still prefer nude or muted colors. You can never go wrong with nude except if
you manage to create ˝mannequin˝ hands – that can look awful. Nudes are always
elegant, sophisticated, office friendly and appropriate for every occasion. Ok,
maybe this is also partly the case in classic red colors, but I don’t like
them. I often get that impression form the red nails and lips, that woman are
just trying too hard to be seductive.
Over the past three years or so I become an OPI snob. I own one Zoya and
the rest of polishes are all from OPI. Some colors disappointed with their
quality, but mostly are just great. Their nude colors in jelly form are the
best and I love their wide brush. I adore nail polishes and this hobby is not
very cheap, so I decided to limit myself a bit. I will buy a new polish, when I
finish with one of the ones I own. Another thing I like about OPI, that they
announce their colors half a year in advance. Before a new collection arrives
in my country, I can see a ton of swatches and then decide what to buy.
Luckily, nothing from upcoming collections caught my eye, so I’m done for this
year.
(as listed, from left to right)
Makes men blush
It’s a soft sheer pink color with some pink, pearl-like micro glitters. It’s a jelly polish and that means that is long wearing. It looks the best on longer nails; also it would be perfect for French manicure. Nail tip is still visible after two coats. I wore it for my trip to Vienna and it stayed untouched for four days without a problem. I’m wearing it today, while writing this post. It is very versatile and neutral color. It’s simple, but that mini glitter gives it a bit of life and makes it somehow different. This polish is a part of OPI’s ˝Beyond chic˝ collection from 2008, but now it’s often find under ˝Soft shades˝.
My very first knockwurst
This one has a special place in my heart, because it was my first OPI. I bought it in 2012 (by some standards I should throw this one away already), it a part of ˝German˝ collection for fall and winter. This one is beautiful muted pink, almost dusty pink. It has cream consistency and it’s the same as it was almost four years ago. It still dries very quickly and applies like a dream. It looks the best when my nails are short.
Do you take lei away?
This one is as I consider the most typical nude color for me. It’s a
skin like polish with some yellow undertone. I was afraid it would be a total
miss for me, but I like it, especially now, when my hands are a bit darker.
It’s a cream polish, so it’s not very long wearing, but I usually change color
every two or three days anyway. Application in very good, nice and even, just
don’t forget to shake the bottle from time to time. I always do two coats maxi,
without any undercoats or topcoats – don’t like that stuff. This polish was
part of last year’s summer ˝Hawaii˝ collection and it’s still available on the
web.
Chilin' like a villain
This color is not easy to find in a nude section. It’s sheer orange
color, I would say muted orange. For me, it looks the best during summer with a
dark skin. It’s a jelly polish with a little problem – you must be extra
careful with application, or it gets ugly streaky. Often shaking during
application and thick coats are required. This color is from 2013 Wizard of Oz
collection, which was introduced as that year’s ˝soft shades˝. It took me a lot
of time to decide, if I want this or not. It wasn’t love at first sight even
though I was in search for something orangey, but when it was on sale, I bought
it.
A butterfly moment
This is a frosty beauty, a very special brownish/orange/golden/pink? A
butterfly on your nails. I usually hate frosty colors, but this one a really
like. It’s not streaky at all, but gets chipped very easily. The polish is from
Mariah Carey’s collection from spring 2013. I remember I was waiting for this
for so long to arrive in our drugstores and was very happy when I finally got
it. It’s more summery color I would say. To me, it goes perfect with that
bronzy look and tanned skin, but it also makes me happy during cold months.
