Make-up things I don't like

I adore makeup and own by my opinion quite a lot of products, but I don’t consider myself as a typical user. I love minimalism and skip items that are for a lot of women the most important or basic. Some of them I just don’t like some don’t fit me from different reasons.

Mascara – I buy it from time to time, but it’s difficult for me to find such that won’t irritate my sensitive eyes. The second thing is I’m not that kind of girl who likes to check herself in a mirror every hour to see if everything is still in place. My eye makeup must be longwearing, on a budget and tears proof (tears caused by allergies, not sadness). Waterproof mascaras seem to be too aggressive and hard to take off, even with oils, I often lost a lash or two. I like the effect that mascaras give, but often don’t feel comfortable wearing it, because I’m afraid of smudging.

Lip liner – never bought it, for me it’s unnecessary. I wear lipstick just once or twice a week for a few hours and I’m not looking for perfection or super long lasting formulas. All my lipsticks cost less than 5€. It just has to be pretty and comfortable, don’t mind reapplying it. It’s always funny to see women wearing dark lip pencil and much brighter lipstick.  I support creativity, but this looks bad.

Eye liner – I know so many women, who can’t live without it and use it constantly, of course always with mascara. For them, putting on eyeliner is like brushing their teeth – a must. It’s also popular between teens and those mums, who got stuck in the 80´s along with their vintage blue eyeshadow.  I love to see a wing line for glamorous events and with false eyelashes that looks just amazing. But for every day - don’t like it, it’s so common and no as flattering as some think. Maybe a soft line with brown pencil would do much better, since it’s not so obvious.

Lip gloss – it can look good on the others, with some looks, but not on myself. I’ve got oily, shiny skin and don’t like to have too shiny lips too. Most of affordable ones are sticky. I don’t like expensive lip products, because it’s just not my thing. I adore lipsticks in colors which beautifully emphasize lips and are not so obvious (with some exceptions). Lip glosses with glitters and very popular lip oils often look a bit pushy by my opinion. Oh and when the wind blows your hair and it sticks it on your lips – just wonderful.

Bright red nail polish – when I travel by train, have too much time and observe people – 80% of women wears bright red nail polish. How original. There so many different colors out there, it’s not just red. It looks good with some looks, but not all the time, for everywhere and with everything.

Foundation - I’m sure a lot of women would look much younger and better without wearing a foundation. Especially if they wear wrong color, that doesn’t suit their skin tone.  It’s the other thing, if you have a major skin imperfections to hide, but otherwise don’t use it often. What’s the point of having airbrushed face every day? Hide smaller imperfections, maybe use a corrector/brightener at the under eye area, add some blush if you’re pale and go. Use it on special occasions, parties… but not all the time. And don’t let me mention contouring. Who’s got the time for all that? Makeup artists who get paid for it. Everyone does not need a contour palette.

Big brows – I see tons of very young women with Brooke Shields’s eyebrows all the time. Big brows everywhere! Every brand has a collection of brow product now. To me, thick brows look too heavy. Like the brows wear you. First thing you notice – the brows which hide beautiful eyes and steal them well deserved attention. A pass for me, I’ll just stick to my clear brow gel.

These are just my opinions; I don’t want to offend or judge on anyone. Everyone has a right to be creative, express themselves and use makeup just on the way that she/he wants and likes to.
