I bought my two first Yankee candles in small jars
last November. I hesitated with this purchase for a while, because they are
quite expensive. Candle in a small jar costs 11,90€. But on the other hand,
it’s not that much money either, because they last for a long time, even though
they’re small. My room is not big, so after less than an hour I need to stop using the candle, or I’m taking a risk of an headache, unfortunately. It’s so
practical to use a candle’s lid to do it, so there’s no smoke, which is great. I
chose lighter scents I suppose, but they are still too strong for me. Now when the
weather is warmer, I tend to burn my candles with an open window. I’m not
afraid of a draft, because I’m next to burning candle all the time. Before I
went candle shopping I made a list of scents I want to try. I didn’t want to
spend a lot of time in the shop, making ˝tough˝ decisions, while the shop
assistant is standing bored next to me. On my first trip to Yankee candle store I bought:
Black coconut and Pain au raisin. First belongs to the group of fresh scents,
and the second one to the group of food and spices scents.
Black
coconut – if I found correct data, this was part of Paradise collection for
spring 2013. This scent reminds me of a suntan lotion with hint of vanilla. At
first it was very shy and barley there, so I was a bit disappointed. I gave so
much money for nothing? But after a while it became stronger, if I left it
burning for longer time, even too strong. My eyes start to burn and I can taste
the candle in my mouth. I hope it’s true when they say, that these candles are
free of toxins and more natural.
Pain
au raisin – is from last year’s CafĂ© Culture collection, which was presented in
summer. An interesting choice of smells for a summer collection I would say, it
more for autumn. This one smells like bread with sugar, raisins and cinnamon. I
love it and it’s my favorite Yankee so far. The closet where I store my candles
smells like this, it’s so dominant.
Shea
Butter – bought this in a medium jar, I believe in January for 25€. This was
put on market last year in spring in Pure essence collection. It is described
as very soft, cream like, buttery, comforting smell. It is, but maybe if you
burn it in a large ballroom, but definitely not in my house. I like the scent, but I will last me forever.
I need to put a lid on it after 20 minutes or so, it’s too strong. And because
it’s burnt for shorts periods of time, it started tunneling. This problem can
be sold with aluminum foil or buying a special lid for candles, which helps to
melt the wax more even.
This is my wishlist for a next visit to Yankee Candle
store. I would like to try: Aloe water, Lake sunset, Riviera escape, Olive&Thyme, Sea
Salt&Sage. If I decide to buy something from this list it would probably be
in a votive candle form. They are a lot cheaper and will last long enough for me.
Black coconut smell is beautiful!
