I am a materialist. Emotionally attached to things and that also
includes makeup. But still, sometimes is such a relief to throw away things
that I don’t like. It’s also a great excuse to buy something new. On rainy
Sunday afternoon I decided to go through all my makeup products and toss away
everything I don’t like and don’t use. My collection is not big. I always try
to use everything I own on a rotation. Before I buy anything (ok almost always)
I look on line for reviews, so I’m satisfied with most of my products. Let’s go
back to Sunday’s ˝mini cleaning˝. I
threw away five things: 3 lipsticks, mascara and eyeliner/shadow in a pen.
First is a matte lipstick from Wet
n Wild – Mega last lip color in ˝Mochalicious˝. It’s a dark brown, trendy color.
I thought it would suit me, but I feel very uncomfortable wearing it. It’s too
dark and unflattering, even when I put it on a lip balm in a thin layer. Also
the formula in very drying and I hate the packaging. You have to be extra
careful when putting a lid on it, or you might ruin the top of it and leave the
cap dirty. I own another lipstick from the same line and I love it, but this
one had to go.
Second lipstick that had to go is from Essence – ˝Let’s the berry-tales begin˝. This was from last year’s
Christmas collection. It’s a dark berry color. Again not in my style, but
occasionally I want to try something different and Essence has got so
affordable products, which are great for experiments. Just the quality is not
always great and also in this case, the color. By my opinion, I don’t look great
with dark lips and this was no exception. Also the color is uneven and when I
try to build it up, it becomes too dark. I love the packaging, it’s totally my
color. And for the conclusion: I will try not to buy dark lipsticks anymore.
Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara is the third product on its way to
garbage. It has to go, because it’s too old and smell very bad. I rarely use
mascara, so I didn’t try a lot of them, but this was great. It didn’t irritate
my eyes - that’s the most important thing to me. It didn’t smudge and gave me
enough of subtle volume. Washing it off was easy; it was the best mascara I
owned. I’m not going to buy another one, because I literally wear it like 5
times a year, it’s just not my thing,
Here comes another lipstick, this time from Catrice and its Ultimate
shine gel color lipstick in shade ˝Upside brown˝. I own it for about four
years, so it has to go. I have mixed feelings about it. I liked the color, it
was my lips but better sort of one. The lipstick is very short wearing and the
color is sheer and unbuildable. It is more like a balm, very comfortable to wear;
I could reapply it without using a mirror and this color really suited me.
The last item I’m saying goodbye to is from Essence, it’s their jumbo eye pencil/shadow in the color ˝Yummy, Yummy! ˝. The color itself is
gorgeous grey with I think some lilac undertones, but not very pigmented on my lids. I own the powder eyeshadow which is in exact color and use it a lot.So there is no excuses to keep this one. This pencil is just sadly sitting there in my
drawer for two years now, I never reach for it. And the center of it is
constantly breaking, when I try to sharpen it. For me, it’s easier to use a
powder eyeshadow, because it looks prettier and it’s more long lasting.
