Makeup decluttering

My makeup collection is minimalistic compared to most of Youtubers or famous bloggers, beauty gurus. I would like to get it even smaller, especially in the nail polish and fragrance sector. I’m simply afraid that my products will go bad before I complete them. I’m not sure what would be ideal numbers for certain type of products. Maybe I should narrow down my polishes to number 10 and fragrances to 4. One perfume for each season would be ideal, but life without great colors and seductive smells is just boring and there is always something on my wish list.

One afternoon I just opened my drawers and went through all products. The rule was simple: what I’m not using or it’s just not that great has to go away. Here’s the list of things I throw away:

Makeup factory: Strobbing fluid
I thought I would use this all year around and would look like natural highlighter, but it’s just too shiny and somehow heavy. I just used it during summer couple of times and then it was forgotten. There are so many better products out there that I’ll give this away. Also I find powder highlighters so much nicer on my greasy cheeks and expiration dates are longer.

Max factor: Eye brightener
This product was favorite of mine for a long time, until I discovered some really good under eye concelaers. I would probably finish up the bottle if it wasn’t too old. I don’t wanna experiment with older products around my eye area. And I think as I grow older, this formula is not enough for me and I need more coverage.

The balm: Dessert blush/bronzer
Since I own ˝Baby don’t go˝ from MAC this one definitely lost its position. It is very pigmented, you need to be careful with application and sometimes it can perform orangey on skin. It was my only bronzer, but I won’t miss it. I want to try something much lighter and flattering, like ˝candle light˝ or even ˝le beige powders˝.

Artdeco: Crystal mascara and liner
I made a review a few posts ago and this was the worst and most dangerous mascara ever. Very disappointed.

Artdeco: Metallic matte liquid lipstick
This color is way off my style and the formula is really terrible. It smells chemically and has gross taste, burns my lips… so nothing good about it. Ok effect looks great if you are for this kind of things, but it’s not worth the money.

Catrice: Slim matic ultra precise brow pencil waterproof
The color is totally wrong for me; it is too light and looks ashy. It also performs patchy and uneven. What you pay is what you get is true in this case.

Essie: Hubby for desert
Essie is not my favorite because of their brushes, but this color was truly disappointing. Very hard to apply and make it even. It looked patchy, you could see brush strokes. It was like kids were playing with my nails. I expected something more pastel-lavender like, but got milky white-pink. I only had it for a year and then gave up.

OPI: I knead sour dough
This was really nice frosty brownish-red. I wore it quite a lot, but now it get old. Formula is still great, but there’s not much left in the bottle, so it’s quite hard to apply it really good. It’s time to let it go. This color was limited edition, but I think I wouldn’t have the need to repurchase it anyway.

OPI: Makes men blush
Old polish that needed to go. This was interesting  I would say duochrome pink/white color, very work appropriate. You can still buy it on Ebay, you'll find it between soft shades. To me it's not unique enough to buy again, I think Zoya offers some similar colors.

Zoya: Bar pixie dust
I love pixie dust polishes, but this color was too glittery and chunky for me. I recently bought its ˝softer version˝ dupe Godiva, which is truly something I really like. It also become thicker and harder to apply, but I don’t have need to use a thinner, it has to go.

YSL: Black opium nuit blanche perfume
Till’ this day I still have no idea why I bought this. I liked it in store, but hated when wearing later at home. I can’t stand it, everybody wears some kind of version of ˝ Black opium˝ everywhere I go and it’s ridiculous. Because of if, I now hate sweet mainstream fragrances. I got it to my best friend and she just adores it. I’m glad it found a better home and someone who truly enjoys it.

I feel better and lighter now. Hope this won’t be excuse to buy whole bunch of new stuff, but just a thing or two now and then… My big 30th birthday is slowly approaching and I would like to treat myself with something special, maybe even high end special. If by any chance someone is reading this, your suggestions are welcome.
