Not that long ago I thought that makeup brushes were reserved only for makeup artists or people who are just trying too much with their look, but today I can’t imagine to apply my eye shadow or powder otherwise than with a brush. I got rid of all my retro sponge tip applicators and nasty powder puffs. And one brush doesn’t mean a thing today, you need to own whole collection, for all kinds of product types and face parts. I decided to write about my top 5 brushes. In total I think I have in regular use about 10 brushes, which is not a big collection but quite for average makeup user like me.
Zoeva 114 Luxe face focus – Zoeva is German brand famous for their high quality but affordable eye palettes and really nice brushes. This brush has half of natural and half synthetic brushes. My favorite is because of its practical, slightly triangular shape, ideal for setting you under eye area or applying highlighter. It is dense enough to be precise, but still soft for sensitive skin. Highly recommended.
Claudia Shiffer blush brush – from the cheapest to the most expensive one. This was more expensive, because it’s entirely made off natural hair. It is very soft and fluffy. I use it with finishing powders and my ¨special¨ aka. more expensive products, which I treat with special care. It was sold as part of famous former supermodel Cludia Shiffer makeup line made with collaboration with ArtDeco. You can definitely smell the difference between natural and synthetic bristles during washing, natural one have that stinky smell which luckily fades away after drying.
Essence powder brush – this is the cheapest one in my entire collection, but very good. First off all I like that it is smaller and very travel and makeup pouch friendly. And the second thing is that it is super soft. I like to use it with highly pigmented blushes, because I know if I use this brush I won’t look like a clown. It is entirely made of synthetic bristles. I have it for at least 8 years and it’s still in good condition. So with brushes, high price doesn’t also mean the best performance.
Sigma shader E55 – the last on my list is I would say a popular brush in makeup community. I use this for applying shadows all over my lid. It does its job quickly and perfectly. If you like to often use just one color, this is the brush you need. This one is also entirely made out of natural bristles. Sigma is known for high quality, so also the price is up there, but you won’t regret it.
For information: I clean all my brushes with solid soap ˝Honey I washed the kids˝ from Lush, I think it’s ideal, it has very pleasant, soft smell, it is gentle enough, but leaves bristle squeaky clean
Zoeva 234 Smoky shader bamboo – this brush comes in different color variants I chose woody one, because it looked the most appealing. I mostly use this to apply shiny or brighter shadow one the top of the lid or to apply darker color in outer corner. It is good for blending, because is slightly fluffy, but still dense.
