Welcome to the great battle of the two tiny bottles: Mixa Hyalurogel sensitive skin serum vs. Vichy Mineral 89. This comparison will be made from the point of view of the average user, so don’t judge me.
They were both created to fight against dry and dull skin. Their mission is to provide your skin weightless hydration and consequently plump it and also give it that healthy look and glow. That sounds great, but do they work? I will not get into ingredients, because I’m not an expert in that, let’s just look at more ˝basic˝ things.
When applying…
I find that Mineral 89 gives me way more of that refreshing feeling after application than Mixa, which is stickier, thicker, and less watery. Also when they dry down, Mineral 89 quickly sinks in and blends with my skin, while Mixa stays on the surface and it’s a bit… sticky.
Results on the skin
They are both very hydrating and help a lot with my dry patches. I also apply them to my lids without any sort of irritation, they even helped to ˝cure˝ my rash. They do not mess with my moisturizer or makeup, but Mixa needs a bit more time to sink in and dry completely. My skin looks better, healthier, and feels more comfortable. I always apply this kind of serum in the morning, after cleansing, and before my SPF.
Both are fragrance-free.
Packaging and price
I believe that this factor depends on where you live, but here in Slovenia, Mixa is cheaper. The approximate difference in price for the smallest 30 ml bottle was 2,5€ when I bought them.
The packaging of both is very nice looking and practical - a compact thicker glass bottle with a pump. I did have some problems with Vichy, when my bottle was towards the end I had a really hard time getting out the product. I had to help myself with a spatula, which was not that hygienic. I assume the same thing will happen with Mixa.
Conclusion
Although it is pricier, I give more Vichy, because it provides that refreshing feeling with the application, which is very welcomed in the morning. Mixa is not far behind and will provide you with the same benefits, it is just less refreshing.
I just remembered another great alternative, but in a different price range – Clinique moisture surge hydrating supercharged concentrate. This one was out before Vichy, but I did not get so much attention, at least not in Europe. If you have a chance, try it out, you will not regret it.
