Dior Homme Intense 2011 fragrance review

It was late August and I was already highly enthusiastic about getting myself a new fragrance for colder months. It’s a huge thing for me because I love rich, wintry scents and cannot wait for the proper weather to wear them. I could not find anything special. Everything was so overly sweet and generic. How many new releases of the orange flower-vanilla combo can there be? So I told myself that if I can’t find anything great among women’s fragrances, let’s go to explore the ˝other˝ side.

I was surprised to discover how many women like to wear fragrances marketed toward men. I got so many great suggestions online, like the whole new world just opened for me. Ok, I am overreacting here, but why didn’t I remember this sooner? Because I was afraid of those over-colony scents without character that we so often ˝meet˝ on the streets. This was the most frequent suggestion to try and it get me at first try. I've known the bottle from advertising for years, but never found a solid reason to try it.

Dior Homme Intense 2011 is a very smooth and beautiful composition of vintage makeup-like iris, a bit of leather, and sweet dark chocolate. At first, we get some loud lavender, but that goes away quickly, and then it settles into this sweet and powdery goodness. So don’t be afraid of that first impression and give the fragrance some time to develop.

This is very unisex to me. Some call it too feminine, but I would not agree. It has enough of a tough character to be worn by modern man. It is sexy, sweet, and different from what we are used to smell on our partners.

Here are the notes listed on Fragrantica:

TOP: Lavander

MIDDLE: Iris, Ambrette, Pear

BASE: Virginia Cedar, Vetiver

I find it very strong, so one spray, and I’m good for the day. The longevity is very good. It can be a real chameleon, the colder the weather, the sweetest the scent.

The packaging is classy and elegant, full of little details, which I love. So if you want to try something different and you are not yet familiar with this apparently super popular line, give it a chance. Dior still makes it right.. sometimes.
