Today we'll check how older bottles of OPI nail polishes look like after
some years of use. First let’s repeat some general rules about storing nail
polishes. They should be kept in dark and cool place, but not in refrigerator.
Ideal are cooler rooms with consistent temperature, without exposing to direct
sunlight. Polishes shouldn’t be near any sources of heat. Light and heat can
promote color changes and fading. I just hate that some shelves in drugstores
are so hot, because of heavy lightning and when you pick up a bottle it’s warm.
I recently bought ruined lipstick, because it was stored on this way.
I picked up 7 older polishes, they are from OPI, because this is my
favorite brand and of course most of my lacquers are from them. Some are
already out of use, waiting to be thrown away. One will be soon used up. Do you
throw your polishes away after they’re expired? I mean after that recommended
time of use, which is usual from 24-36 months, or you wait until they go bad? I
use them as long as I can, but I don’t own a thinner to improve the density.
And also so big bottle of 15ml can’t be used so quickly, especially if you own
a lot of them.
How can you determine the date of production of polish? Go to www.checkfresh.com, select OPI end enter
batch number from the bottom of your lacquer. As I was doing this post I
discovered that this number changed. Or they no longer provide tracking or I’ve
been buying fake polishes for the last three years. That’s not good.
First two are not the oldest, but the most disappointing in change of
quality. They are both liquid sands and were super beautiful when I bought
them. After two years they were extremely thick and hard to use. Maybe the
thinner would solve the situation, but I never bought it, so I throw them both
away. Also the smell has change and become stronger. Term liquid sand comes from OPI and is their special formula of textured
polishes, which were very popular a few years ago. They come in mat or super
glittery form and are quite long lasting.

I like it so much, but this formula just turned out to be a total disaster for me. My ˝Pixie dust˝ from Zoya is still the same after two years of using and healthier, so in the future I'll skip this for sure.
Cream formula is usually watery and you need at least two coats for
opaque color. It dries quickly, but is not very long lasting. Finish is nicely
shiny and rarely streaky. I have very good experiences with cream colors with
just one exception.

This in my first and oldest OPI and is still great after 5 years. I'll throw it away soon, because it's old and almost gone.

This was never my favorite color and I had some regrets buying it. The formula itself is great, but it never ever dries. I tried with some tricks, but never bought drops for fast drying. With time it's getting even worse, so I'll say this baby goodbye.
I’m not a fan of frosted colors; they remind me on old polishes that our mothers used to wear. Formula is great tough, easy to apply and thickens slowly. Color is even and dries very quickly. Down side is, that it chips fast.

This polish become a bit thicker, but is still great to use, dries ok and it's opaque with just one coat. But because it's old, I'll put it away after some months. I like wearing it during summer.
I’m not sure how to categorized last two polishes. I believe they are some kind of jellies, but ˝Makes men blush˝ is officially described as sheer. Jelly formula is very grateful and long lasting, just perfect. The color of this formula is sheerer, partly buildable, but rarely opaque. That means that the tip of the nail is still visible.

I won't say it's sheer, by my opinion is quite opaque. I've got some problems with drying and striking, but it's not that bad. I've got no idea when it was made, but usually this formula stays great after long time. I had some better jellies, like ˝Tickle my France-y˝, that one was perfection.

This one is much more problematic as previous polish. It got a lot thicker, so it dries slowly. Brush lines are more visible and it's hard to apply it evenly. Luckily I don't like the color so much, so it won't be such a problem to throw this away.
