OPI: Clean Slate

When it comes to new makeup releases, I ‘am still the most excited, when I see a new upcoming collection of nail polishes. Like I need another shade… but that’s the story for some other time. My personal favorite are those collections from fall and around holiday time, so now I’m in my special nail polish hunting mode.  OPI did not disappoint with Fall Wonders, it’s a wonderful mix of darks, neutrals, and bights. Don’t get it why so many reds for this time of the year, but I guess they just sell well. I was good and selected just one shade – Clean Slate. It is dark, metallic grey with silver and occasionally even blue shimmer. It looks classy and modern. And although it may be a bid ˝edgy˝ for some, I think it is still office appropriate. The formula is very thin but buildable. It applied nicely and evenly. For my pictures, I did two coats, but for a perfectionist, I assume it will take three coats. It was easy to remove, nothing special. I don’t find these metallics to be very ...

OPI: Right as Rain

Hello there and welcome to my site! Today I would like to share my thought about the latest OPI nail polish that I bought – Right as rain, from the Nature strong collection, which was released last year. This is my second polish from the line and because I was super satisfied with my first one, I also had high hopes for this shade. The thing is, I am not as happy with this one, but let’s start at the beginning. Right as rain  is really stunning grey dusty purple color. I find it quite unique and have nothing to compare against it right now. I would label it as a typical shade for fall, because it is so dark, but of course, it is perfect for anytime you wish. Maybe I got older or badly stored lacquer, but the formula of this one is not super thin as I’m used to. It is a bit thicker, so it also needs more time to dry. If I put on a generous coat of polish it even doesn’t want to dry, so I am disappointed about that. It drives me nuts J. It is very opaque, it applies nicely, and has a...

OPI: Quest for Quartz

Finally, the new spring/summer collection from OPI, called Xbox arrived in our drugstores. It was about time. But better later than never, right? The selection of colors is dynamic, optimistic, and vibrant. I love it as a whole, it is one of my favorites for a long time. My drawer is full of bolder colors, so I wanted something softer and more neutral.  Quest for Quartz  is soft, dusty pink with subtle silver shimmer. If my memory is correct, it reminds me of my beloved shade  My very first knockwurst,  but that one was a bit deeper and without glittery parts.   I must say, I was a bit disappointed by the formula. It is a bit thicker than usual. Like when you’re applying older nail polish. And it was a bit harder to distribute it evenly. It is not a complete miss but requires some extra attention. Anyway, it is a very pretty shade and I’m happy that I got it. This one is perfect for soft manicures with shimmery touch.

OPI: For What It's Earth - Nature strong collection

Hello there and happy Tuesday! I hope you survived yesterday – statistically the most depressing Monday of the year. But that thing is over, so let’s optimistically move on now. OPI finally went into ˝healthier˝ waters and created their first line of natural origin vegan nail lacquers. This line is huge, because they created 30 new shades, so you should be able to find something for yourself. In my country Slovenia, this line is available only online and in a few nail salons and it is quite pricy – 13,90 €. For start, I picked only one shade, but I will surely order more. For What It’s Earth  is a neutral earthy pink shade. This one caught my attention immediately because I have nothing similar at this moment. It looks pink under sunlight and more brown-ish under artificial lights. It is one-coater for sure, but I always do two coats, so it can last longer. The wearing time is average for OPI, not the best, but still good enough. I never wear a topcoat, because I love to change my ...

OPI: Marigolden Hour

Marigolden Hour  is a very warm orange-yellow shade and comes in a cream formula. It was released this summer as part of the Malibu collection. Although I wore it during summer, to me it is more color for fall. This shade is quite bright for my taste and out of my comfort zone, so it is my weekend polish. I would not describe it as super unique, but it is a step away from your usual yellow. The formula is thin but easy to work with. The color is completely even after three coats. If you are not a perfectionist, you can easily go away with only two coats – like me. I just hate painting the third coat. Removing it was not that great, it surprisingly stains quite a lot. Usually, I have no problem with brighter shades with OPI’s formula, but this one is an exception. If you are looking for something different for this season, maybe you should give this shade a try and stand out a little. Anyway, always have fun with colors!

OPI: Machu Peach-u

Are you in search of a great summer nude nail polish shade? Here is one of the options for you -   Machu Peach-u  from  OPI. This shade was originally released as part of Peru collection for fall 2018. I would describe it as nude peachy pink with a cream finish. It is subtle but bright enough not to be boring. It offers a great break from your typical nude shades. I believe it is very versatile and matches many skin tones. The formula is very thin and the color is quite sheer, so you’ll need at least two coats to make it opaque. Anyway, it is fun to wear and you won’t be disappointed.

OPI: Destined to be a legend

Two previous collections from OPI were a total miss for me, absolutely nothing caught my eye. But this time, when we were invited to  Hollywood . I had an instant crush at one shade only –  Destined to be a legend. This beautiful cream, mid-toned blue, with hints of gray is just so inviting. It is not revolutionary but was definitely lacking in my nail polish drawer. I own some blues, but they are brighter. It is good to step away from that traditional spring pink colors and just wear something different. * I did two coats I like that is bright enough not to be boring, but still sophisticated enough to be worn for work. I feel great wearing this blue because it is such ˝my˝ color - I often wear blue clothes. The formula is great as always: thin, buildable, and fast-drying. It is not super long-lasting, but I remove my polish every three days anyway, so that’s fine with me.  It didn’t stain my nails, which is great.  If I’m not mistaken, the next stop for us, OPI love...

OPI: Yank my Doodle

It took me quite a while before I found wearable orange nail polish that I truly like – it comes from OPI and its name is Yank my Doodle. This shade is from fall collection that was presented two years ago, called Washington DC and it was done with collaboration with actress Kerry Washington. I know burnt orange is not in fashion anymore, color of this year is apparently violet, but I don’t care. Yank my Doodle is muted warm tone orange with some brown and red undertones. At least I see it like that. It somehow gives that retro 50s feeling to me, although I thing modern orange polishes were way brighter back then. It is cream shade with thin formula. It applies nicely, evenly and it’s easy to remove without that unwanted staining. Color is bright enough to not being boring, but still appropriate for office environment. It especially looks good with tanned skin, but it will be great for wearing all year round. I think it looks very classy, but of course different fr...

Orange wishes

Somewhere I read that burnt orange was the color of fall 2017, well I like it in spring 2018 and I don’t care. It’s not just about that specific shade, it’s about orange and red tones in makeup in general. When I first saw Naked heat palette I was like: ˝no, no, so not for me˝, but now I like those colors. I’m simply open to try something different. I decide not to spend 50€ on actual Naked palette, but I would like to try ˝cheaper˝ and smaller version, some kind of dupe by Smashbox cover shot palette  called Ablaze , which is just from recently available in our country. Ulta The next thing I’m curious to try is matiffying photo finish light primer , also from Smashbox.  This is not orange, bur still deserves a place on my list. It is available in travel size, so if it doesn’t work for me it won’t be that bad. I’m just crossing my fingers that they invented primer for my oily T-zone. Smashbox OPI – Yank my Doodle – another nail polish you will say. In m...

OPI: Polly want a laquer

Hello spring nail colors! Although I wear all colors all year round, now it’s officially time for brighter and pastel shades. I even ordered myself a green polish, but it hasn’t arrived yet, so we’ll talk about it next time (if it arrives). Anyway today I want to show you something from last year’s spring Fiji collection from OPI. The shade’s name is ˝Polly want a laquer˝ and it’s to me true lavender. I blindly bought some lilac-ish shades before, but they always somehow managed to disappoint me. They were even too blue or too violet/pink and never lavender. So I wanted to own this shade so badly and pre-ordered from abroad. Of course it stuck in mail somewhere and waited for it extra long… Let’s get to the point. This is cream shade. Color is bright and definitely not boring or too vibrant, so it still looks sophisticated and it’s office friendly. Formula is easy to work with but thin, so you might need up to three coats for fully opaque color. Wearing time is good, av...

Color code #mykindofgreen

Today I wanted to made something fun and different. Lately I've been obsessed with green color, so put together a mini selection of green things that I like. Some of them I actually own and some were selected from online ˝window˝ shopping. Spring is usually about pink and pastels, but this year, for me green is number one. 1. Casual khaki belt dress from Mango - this would be a great piece for urban safari look, 2. Places to go, people to see by Kate Spade is selection of beautiful photographs, quotes and advices about traveling. Very appealing coffee table book, suitable for daydreaming. 3. Chanel no. 19 is green floral fragrance, forgotten gem, which was created back in 1971. Something totally different from today's sugar factory creations, old, but still modern enough.  1. Beauty is life eyeshadow in shade Jungle - green golden-brown, for wild and seducive eye looks. First of all this German brand is totally new to me, I discovered it by coincidence. Th...

OPI: My private jet

I wish you all a happy New Year! Stay healthy, optimistic and may your wishes come true! Most of first posts of the year contain last year’s favorites and disappointments or author’s goals for the future. I’ll start with I think my most loved makeup item – nail polish, OPI nail polish. I craved for something dark, but not boring; festive, but still work appropriate. All that I found in one of OPI’s classic colors – My private jet. This color was originally released in spring 2007 and later became a part of permanent range. Of course, it was not available in our country, so I bought it online, like most of my polishes. Off topic: this year’s holiday from OPI was not in our stores what cannot be a good sign. My private jet is dark, mostly gray, slightly brown shimmery color with silver glitters and some shy holographic effect. Holographic glitter was more prominent in previous formulations, now is not that obvious. I actually like that, because I’m not the fan of it....

Nail polishes for Autumn part 1

Hello! I’m so happy that the weekend is almost here and that the weather outside will get a bit cooler, because it was hard to work in such conditions.  I’m not so lucky to be in modern office with good air condition, we mostly just improvise with draft. It’s not a surprise that I think about colder days, so today I decided to combine my two favorite things: fall and nail polish. I went through tons of pictures on the internet and made some picks of really beautiful autumnal nail polishes. The problem was how to capture the real shade of a polish. Different lights, conditions, cameras, outdoor, indoor places and the color look completely different. I hope these pictures represent the shades in their best way and hope you’ll like them too. I don’t own any of these polishes just yet, because the decision of choosing just one is so difficult. And again, I don’t need another nail polish. Or do I? Let’s begin with my favorite brand, OPI. I love their thin formula, because it dri...

OPI polishes after some years of use

Today we'll check how older bottles of OPI nail polishes look like after some years of use. First let’s repeat some general rules about storing nail polishes. They should be kept in dark and cool place, but not in refrigerator. Ideal are cooler rooms with consistent temperature, without exposing to direct sunlight. Polishes shouldn’t be near any sources of heat. Light and heat can promote color changes and fading. I just hate that some shelves in drugstores are so hot, because of heavy lightning and when you pick up a bottle it’s warm. I recently bought ruined lipstick, because it was stored on this way. I picked up 7 older polishes, they are from OPI, because this is my favorite brand and of course most of my lacquers are from them. Some are already out of use, waiting to be thrown away. One will be soon used up. Do you throw your polishes away after they’re expired? I mean after that recommended time of use, which is usual from 24-36 months, or you wait until they go bad...
