Essie: Kimono over

Let’s start a New Year with a nail polish review!
I'm not a big fan of dark nail polishes; my collection is mostly build of nude colors. But recently I decided to make some changes and buy makeup products that are out of my comfort zone. One of them was also dark plum, almost black polish from Essie, called Kimono over. This polish is from their fall collection from 2016, inspired by Japan and is (thankfully) the only one that caught my eye. If I'm not mistaken, it would become a part of permanent collection.

Kimono over in my first Essie nail polish, I didn’t know what to expect since reviews about Essie’s products are so different. After reading about them on forums I got a feeling that this brand is not so popular, maybe even bad for your nails. But if it’s good for the Queen and apparently Mrs. Trump, it’s also good for me.

I’m so used to OPI’s wide brushes and big caps which are very easy to hold in a hand, that I had some issues when applying. The brush is so thin you can draw details with it. Application so lasts a bit longer, I guess I would need to get used to. On the other hand, formula is great. It’s medium consistence cream with beautiful super glossy finish, which was a great surprise. Wearing time is average, it dries quite fast.

First coat can be a bit streaky, but the second one provides full coverage and very deepens the color, from dark violet to almost black.

I really adore the color and glossy finish, I often caught myself staring at my nails thinking that’s so pretty. Here we come to the big down side; this color is so hard to take off. Maybe you can solve this problem with using a base coat. If it would be easier to remove I would definitely wear it more often, but it stains, finger nails and goes under nails really bad.
